This team was founded by a group of children in year 6 of the former Otto-Grotewohl Oberschule together with their teacher in 1966. The group “Young railway model builders” met in the gym for modeling after school once a week.

A short time after, Werner Köhler had taken lead of this group. Still today he leads groups and is a father figure to a lot of them. .

At the beginning, the members had an HO- model at their disposal. Some time later a TT-model was added, which arose of the home model of Werner Köhler. This model has been steadily increased and enhanced to a size of 5m x 1.3m.

After the fall of the wall the team had to leave the old club room and had to look for a new room, which they seemed to have found in the Pestalozzi-school in Pirna-Copitz.

For the beginning they were offered two rooms in the back of an outbuilding. Unfortunately, we had to change our room for modeling again. Under the gym, in the former handicraft room we found a suitable home.

Since the move into these rooms the group has been officially carrying the name:

“AG – Modelleisenbahn Pestalozzi – Mittelschule Pirna-Copitz”.

At present our youth group has 8-11 members. Children of year 5 meet for modeling on Wednesdays, at 3 p.m. Meanwhile we have a TT-model and two HO-models. Due to their age we have built back the two old HO-models and the TT-model.

Since 1992 this group has officially become the youth group of MEC Pirna.

We added an old N-model and the HO-model of the former youth group of MEC Pirna. Since January 2002 our youth group has been building on a new TT-model. Presently this model measures 4.5 x 1.3m and it is planned to enlarge this model by adding further elements in various shapes, so that this model matches different room requirements.

At present there are the N-model (2m x 1.2m), one HO- model (2.6 x 1.25m) as well as a smaller TT-model (2.2m x 1.25m) in function.

Our model train team is also participant at exhibitions. So it happens that we are a welcome guest at the Heidenau Model Train Exhibition or at the EXHIBITION DRESDEN “Experience Model Railway”. We also enjoyed being part of the Christmas Exhibition of the Autohaus Pirna in Pirna.
